Today was the kind of day that leaves your feet sore but your soul absolutely buzzing. We started at one of the most iconic landmarks in the world: the Colosseum. But not just a peek from the stand, we actually went onto the arena floor! Standing where gladiators once battled was completely surreal. You can really feel the scale and intensity of what happened there. Looking up at the towering stone walls from that perspective? Goosebumps.
From there, we wandered through the Roman Forum, imagining the bustling streets of ancient Rome, political speeches echoing off marble columns, and everyday Romans going about their lives in the shadow of history.
Then came Vatican City. St. Peter’s Basilica was absolutely breathtaking; majestic, peaceful, and full of awe-inspiring detail at every turn. We continued on to the Vatican Museums, winding through halls filled with centuries of art, and finally ended at the Sistine Chapel. Michelangelo’s ceiling is one of those things you think you’ve seen a hundred times in pictures, but nothing compares to seeing it in person.
By the end of the day, we could barely move our legs, but wow; what a way to end our time in Rome! Tomorrow, we’re off to Venice! Bring on the canals, gondolas, and (hopefully) some gelato-fueled recovery.
