Edinburgh - Wow! Just wow!

Arriving in Edinburgh:

After a short flight and bus ride from the airport, our first real moment in Edinburgh came as we stepped off the Airlink bus at Waverley Bridge. It was early evening, and the city had that soft, pearly glow that makes everything feel slightly magical, even when you’re tired and  dragging luggage.

From our spot on the bridge, the view was nothing short of breathtaking. Edinburgh Castle perched high above the city, stoic and timeless on its rocky outcrop, while the spire of the Scott Monument stretched toward the sky just across the street. The city seemed to rise and fall like a stone wave, layers of history stacked up in sandstone and steep hillside. It was dramatic and romantic. Photos do not do it justice.

As we wheeled our suitcases over the cobbled streets, it was impossible not to feel the history beneath our feet. The rumble of wheels tracking over the uneven surface and the gentle hum of life all around us made for a cinematic welcome.

Our accommodation was just a few hundred metres away, tucked between lanes and wynds, with a wooden door that looked like it had stories to tell. Although it was rough getting our suitcases up to our fourth floor apartment, the view was spectacular. Rooftops stretched out like a patchwork quilt of slate and stone, and the castle watched over us as if to say, “Welcome to Edinburgh.”

Not long after settling in, we headed downstairs to the quaint little restaurant next door, appropriately named Hot Toddies. With its warm lighting, friendly staff, and cozy, rustic charm, it was exactly what we needed. We enjoyed a lovely dinner and couldn’t resist trying a classic hot toddy. The warmth of whisky, honey, and lemon was the perfect way to toast our arrival in Scotland.

It felt like arriving not just in a new city, but in a story already in progress, one that we were now a part of.
