Today we said goodbye to Zagreb and hit the road for Budapest, with a scenic stop along the way that completely stole the show, Lake Balaton.
The lake was absolutely stunning, its calm, blue green waters stretching to the horizon like a soft watercolor painting. It’s easy to see why it’s such a favourite getaway spot for locals. Even with a quick visit, we had time to enjoy the fresh air, take in the view, and relax by the shore before continuing on.
Lunch was another highlight: a hearty bowl of Hungarian goulash, rich and full of warming spice, and a beef filled pancakes; a savory surprise that turned out to be delicious. Comfort food at its best, served in a cozy lakeside setting that made the whole experience feel like something out of a travel magazine.
After lunch, we continued our journey to Budapest and arrived in the late afternoon. First impressions? Instantly better than yesterday. Our hotel was a huge step up. The room was comfortable, clean, and complete with a door that actually closed. A win all around.
We had a short orientation tour by bus, giving us a taste of what’s to come: grand architecture, stately bridges, and glimpses of the Danube. Afterwards, we stretched our legs with a bit of wandering on foot, soaking in the city’s energy as evening settled in.
Tomorrow, we’ll dive deeper into Budapest’s rich history and culture; but for now, we’re ending the day on a much higher note than the one before.
