Underground and On the Sea

We had an amazing day diving into some of Edinburgh’s most fascinating (and slightly spooky) experiences! James and I were joined by Micky, who came up from Durham to explore the city with us.

We started with The Real Mary King’s Close Guided Tour, where we stepped back in time beneath the Royal Mile to discover the hidden streets and hear eerie tales of life (and death) in Edinburgh’s past. Atmospheric, informative, and just the right amount of creepy!

Afterward, we enjoyed a picturesque walk through Dean Village, an oasis of calm just minutes from the city centre. The cobbled streets and historic stone buildings made it feel like we’d stumbled into a storybook.

In the afternoon, we headed to Leith to visit The Royal Yacht Britannia. It was fascinating to explore the ship that once hosted royalty from around the world. The level of detail and history aboard was truly impressive, plus, the onboard tea room was a lovely bonus!

Next up: the Johnnie Walker Whisky and Chocolate Tour. A perfect pairing, this multi-sensory experience guided us through different whisky profiles matched beautifully with artisanal chocolates. Delicious and educational!

We ended the day on a thrilling note with the Evening Underground Ghost Tour, winding through shadowy closes and haunted vaults. Our guide brought the city’s darker history to life, and we left with goosebumps and great stories to tell.

Such a memorable day with great company!
