Paris to Champagne

We left Paris early this morning, trading the bustle of the city for the quiet charm of the Marne Valley as we made our way to Luxembourg. Before crossing into our next country, we made a memorable stop in the small village of Passy

Grigny for a Champagne tasting at the renowned Maison Dom Caudron. Founded in 1929 by a forward-thinking local priest, Dom Caudron brought together the village’s winegrowers to pool their grapes and knowledge; laying the foundation for a cooperative that still thrives today. The house is known for its focus on the Meunier grape, a variety often overshadowed by Chardonnay and Pinot Noir but celebrated here for its fruit forward richness and roundness.

Our visit began with a look inside their modern yet inviting production space, where we learned about the pressing, fermentation, and blending processes. A short film gave even more insight into the history and passion behind the label, and the on-site museum showcased vintage tools and stories from past generations.

Then came the best part: the tasting. We sampled several styles, from their fresh and vibrant brut to a more complex vintage cuvée. Each glass was distinct, expressive, and a testament to the character of the region.

By 11 AM, we were back on the road, refreshed by the experience and a few glasses of Champagne. We arrived in Luxembourg just in time for lunch, carrying with us not just a taste of Champagne, but a deeper appreciation for the people and tradition behind it.
